GBM to announce future tomorrow

...as UPND suffers massive resignations in Kasama

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

SUSPENDED UPND vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba is tomorrow expected to make a decision over his future in the party after two weeks of agitation which culminated into his being slapped with a seven-day ultimatum to exculpate himself.

It is an insult for the UPND to claim that they don’t care about the Bemba vote given to them by Mr. Mwamba because in other words, they are saying Bembas vote on tribal lines. However, records are there to show that unlike the situation in its strongholds where other political parties never got nothing substantial, the UPND always got votes from Bembaland. —Mr Mumbi

SUSPENDED UPND vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba is tomorrow expected to make a decision over his future in the party after two weeks of agitation which culminated into his being slapped with a seven-day ultimatum to exculpate himself.

Meanwhile, more resignations have continued in Kasama with the entire Lukashya constituency resigning from the UPND yesterday, citing poor leadership exhibited by their provincial chairperson Nathan Ilunga, whom they said was misleading Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr. Mwamba’s personal assistant Samuel Kapakula yesterday said Mr. Mwamba will today hold a press briefing which will be carried live on at least three television stations and various radio

stations, including all the radio stations in Kasama. Mr. Kapakula said Mr. Mwamba will mainly talk about what he termed as his suspension from the UPND and how the opposition party has been conducting its politics to win elections at all costs. “GBM's press conference on Tuesday will be broadcast live on Prime TV, Muvi TV, Diamond TV, ZNBC, Hot FM radio, Sun FM, All Kasama radio stations, Radio Phoenix, and UNZA radio. “Mr. Mwamba will talk about various issues surrounding his alleged suspension from the UPND and how the opposition party has been conducting its politics in order to win elections at all costs,” Mr. Kapakula said.

And the UPND has been dealt a heavy blow in Kasama’s Lukashya constituency as the entire executive yesterday resigned following the bickering that has characterised the party before and after the suspension of Mr. Mwamba.

Leading the entire executive yesterday, constituency chairperson Chrispin Musonda said he could not work with Mr. Ilunga because he had personal hatred for Mr. Mwamba. “I cannot work with Mr. Ilunga because he has personal hatred for GBM. You can’t expect me to work with a person who is busy attacking Mr. Mwamba who is the reason we are in UPND. Those who are sup- sup porting Mr. Ilunga are simply there to destroy

HH. I have decided to resign today,” Mr. Musonda said.

Meanwhile, chief trustee Exhilder Mulenga said she ditched the UPND because Mr. Hichilema had opted to work with people of questionable character such as Mr. Ilunga.

She said Northern Province was following Mr. Mwamba and that since Mr. Hichilema was playing to the gallery, he should remain alone. They further warned Mr. Hichilema and his team never to set foot in Kasama.
