THE forthcoming Livingstone Economic Summit would provide an opportunity for German businesses to forge links with their Zambian counterparts, Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany, Anthony Mukwita has said.

He described the summit as a perfect opportunity to facilitate interface and formation of joint ventures between the Zambian and German businesses.

In a statement issued to the Daily Nation by First Secretary - Press and Public Relations, Kellys Kaunda, Mr Mukwita appealed to Africa-Verein, the association of German businesses, to attend the inaugural Zambia Economic association national economic summit expected to take place in Livingstone on July 25 to 26, 2019. He said the invitation was part of efforts intended to boost economic diplomacy by increasing investment and trade between Zambia and Germany.

“I am convinced that the summit will be a perfect event for German businesses to forge links with their Zambian counterparts,” he said. Mr Mukwita said he would seize every opportunity to increase German investment into Zambia and encourage Zambian businesses to engage the German market.

He explained that Zambia had been home to scores of German companies that included well established brands such as BASF Zambia Ltd, Diesel-Electric and Drake & Gorham among others.

Mr Mukwita said President Edgar Lungu had embraced economic diplomacy as the thrust of his foreign policy, a move that has seen foreign missions engaged in attracting foreign investment and promoting trade between Zambia and their host countries.

President Lungu would be guest-of-honour for the summit which is also expected to be attended by the Kenyan President Mr Uhuru Kenyata, former Tanzanian President Mr Jakaya Kikwete and the former South African President Mr Thabo Mbeki.
