PF empowers Matero women with business skills

Patriotic Front constituen­cy chairlady, Annie Chinyanta, said her leadership was aware of the economic challenges faced by most women in the area hence the decision to empower them through training programmes.

Ms Chinyanta expressed happiness that many women from Matero Township attended the workshops which would help promote local value addition.

She explained that the women were trained in said aquacultur­e, livestock production and how to manage their businesses.

“After government embarked on women empowering programmes, I took it upon myself, together with the executive committee from Matero Constituen­cy to ensure that we supplement the efforts as way of helping women to become self-sustainabl­e since they are the most vulnerable in society,” she said.

“I am very happy that the women turned out in huge numbers and were eager to be trained in new survival skills,” said Ms Chinyanta.

Ms Chinyanta said the empowermen­t programmes were conducted by officers from Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.

She said that the trained women would be closely monitored through their clubs as they needed to be also assisted to find the capital to set up businesses.
