ERRANT MINISTERS MUST RESIGN’

- By AARON CHIYANZO

ERRANT ministers must resign to ensure the smooth running of Government and success of President Edgar Lungu, former Presidential aide Amos Chanda has said.

Mr Chanda, who resigned from his position as special assistant to the President for press and public relations called on ministers who felt their continued stay in Government would distract the smooth running of the state to step down. He reiterated that those who cared about the success of President Lungu should listen to their inner voices and do the right thing. He said this at a press briefing at State House yesterday.

“The clarion call I make to all who care about the President, about his success is that whenever you feel your continued stay will endanger his political success even 1 percent, you must listen to your inner voice and do the right thing. Because there are 17 million Zambians and Amos Chanda is one thing, Minister x is one thing,” he said.

Mr Chanda said that when certain questions were raised about you, your inner voice should be able to tell you whether you were guilty or not and trigger the right action.

And Mr Chanda said that he was departing for the private sector to pursue other prospects. He, however, said he would continue supporting the leadership of President Lungu because he believed in his vision and that of the ruling Patriotic Front.

Mr Chanda also advised the person who would take over his office to be thick skinned, saying that he had endured a lot of persecution and torment which he overcame.

He also advised the incoming not to use state machinery to deal with critics and also advised Zambians to be patriotic to save the nation from any disastrous situation.

And Mr Chanda has welcomed a lifestyle audit on him even after leaving office, saying that he had nothing to hide.

He, however, expressed displeasure at the manner in which the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) was operating after revealing that he had been a victim of its unverified suspicions.
