NEW NDOLA AIRPORT 40 PERCENT DONE
40 per cent of the work at the new Ndola International Airport has been done, Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe has said.
Mr Nundwe said that 38 to 40 percent of work had been done on the $397 million new airport project being undertaken by AVIC International Corporation Limited.
Mr Nundwe was speaking during the launch of the safety production month and the secondary safety education campaign at the airport construction site.
He appealed to the workers at the site to execute high levels of professionalism which might land them permanent jobs when the project was complete.
Mr Nundwe also urged AVIC management and the local employees to work together to ensure and promote a good work environment for development.
Speaking about safety, he advised workers to adhere to health and safe practices to curb diseases and accidents at the work place.
He urged the workers not to go for work drunk, in inappropriate work attire or eat while working at the construction site.
And speaking earlier, AVIC Project Manager, Su Zujji, said safety needed to always be on the minds of the workers in order to eliminate potential dangers.
Mr Zujji said that there was need for management and employees to work together to contribute to the safe construction of the airport.
"Please let's take action, work together, learn safety knowledge and strengthen safety awareness," he said.
Meanwhile, Senior Labour Officer Chiwezi Maloba emphasised that occupational health dealt with all aspects of health and safety in the work place as it had a strong focus on the primary prevention of hazards.
Mr Maloba said the Labour Ministry remained determined to ensure that the factories Act was observed at places of work to enhance safety.
