Bwana Mkubwa community in chicken windfall

- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

FORTY-FOUR clubs in Bwana Mkubwa constituency in Ndola have been empowered under the chicken-rearing project.

Member of Parliament (MP) Jonas Chanda said over 1, 300 members in his constituency had benefitted from the chicken-rearing empowerment project using K395,000 of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

This CDF empowerment is not a loan, and the clubs are not paying back anything. Whatever money they will make is simply start-up capital for them to reinvest in this or any other profitable business venture,”—

Dr Chanda.

Dr Chanda said the rural community clubs in Chichele, Kantolomba and Twashuka wards had been empowered in a programme aimed at reducing poverty levels.

The MP said this in Ndola yesterday.

“We have completed the chicken-rearing empowerment projects for rural community clubs in Chichele ward’s Mwenye Township, Mwange A and Mwange B, Kantolomba ward, and Twashuka ward in Jacaranda Villa and Kaloko townships,” Dr Chanda.

He said each of the remaining 12 community clubs had received 200 chicks, chicken feed, feeders, drinkers and medicines.

“This CDF empowerment is not a loan, and the clubs are not paying back anything. Whatever money they will make is simply start-up capital for them to reinvest in this or any other profitable business venture,” he said.

Dr Chanda encouraged all the clubs to work hard and avoid a culture of instant gratification and consumption.

He stated that wealth creation was more important than mere consumption through handouts.

He also said he planned to complete the empowerment of some community youth clubs that would be engaged in cement selling and block- making projects.
