I was right - Wada

…says vindicated by Kambole’s move to Chiefs

“Kambole is a hardworking player, he is so disciplined, he never complains about petty things. His speed is also an added advantage”. - Wada

I WAS widely criticised for giving Lazarous Kambole a national team call up, but today its proven that the young player is a star who just needed nurturing, says former Zambia national soccer team coach Wedson “Wada” Nyirenda.

Kambole on Tuesday inked a three-year deal with South Africa top Premier League side Kaizer Chiefs. The 25-year Zesco United striker is set to make the switch on July 1. Kambole made a debut in Chipolopolo colours during the 2018 CHAN tournament held in Morocco contributing a goal in Zambia’s 3-0 win over Uganda under Nyirenda. Speaking in an interview yesterday, Nyirenda, now coach for South African side Baroka FC, said he was happy with Kambole’s improved performance since 2017. “It is so pleasing to see a player you believe in as a coach excel, especially after being criticised heavily for the choice. I saw a diamond in the rough thick mud and unearthed it to become a star he is now,” Nyirenda said. He described the strike as technically and tactically disciplined. “Kambole is a hardworking player, he is so disciplined, he never complains about petty things. The young man knows what he wants in football. His speed is also an added advantage,” he said. Nyirenda said he intends to meet up with the player for a fatherly talk on what to expect in the South African league. “I would love to give him a tip or two about PSL and Kaizer Chiefs before he starts swimming in the ocean. He must know which type of fish he will be in this vast ocean containing different species of fish,” he said.
