Zamtel, Ulendo Taxi partner
A PARTNERSHIP to promote digital payment system in Zambia has been signed between Zamtel and Ulendo Taxi, a company that offers ground transport services.
Zamtel Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations, Reuben Kamanga, said the partnership would enable customers for Ulendo Taxi fares using ZamPay system.
ZamPay is a digital payment platform that uses a quick responses code to process transactions.
Mr Kamanga explained that the service was live as Zamtel had already started recording a number of transactions.
He was speaking at a media briefing to announce the partnership.
“The days of carrying cash when getting on a taxi are now long gone, you simply call Ulendo using the App, jump into the taxi, enjoy the ride and then just scan to pay.
The process is very simple, fast, secure and convenient,” Mr Kamanga said.
Mr Kamanga said as an innovation organisation that was championing Zambia’s digitalisation, Zamtel was impressed with the growth of an indigenous taxi operating company, Ulendo Taxi.
Zamtel, he said, was always keen on supporting innovation especially when such innovation was championed by Zambians who could develop the nation.
Mr Kamanga had since encouraged the business community to embrace digital payment options such as ZamPay as it was cost effective and reduced the risks associated with handling cash.
“With more people using ZamPay to make payments, we will continue identifying partnerships that would make this platform a truly preferred payment mode for Zambia,” he said.
And Ulendo Taxi chief executive officer, Haggai Mandefu, said the company since inception in 2015 had created employment in Lusaka and Copperbelt through registration of over 600 and 100 drivers respectively.
Mr Mandefu said Ulendo Taxi had achieved more than 20,000 App downloads in Lusaka.
