MP warns illegal land dealers
INDIVIDUALS corruptly selling land will be dealt with sternly because no one is above the law, says Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Jonas Chanda has warned
Dr Chanda said the chaotic sale of land had resulted in many disputes, selling of land reserved for development such as markets, clinics, police posts, giving of plots on designated roads and selling land to foreigners.
Confusion has rocked Munkulungwe Ward and other areas in Ndola over alleged illegal land sales.
Dr Chanda said he would stand with the people of Munkulungwe who should be given first priority in land allocation in the area.
He said the settlers had lived on the land for years.
Dr Chanda said the poorest Munkulungwe resident should be given a piece of land and no exploitation of local people by rich outsiders and foreigners would be tolerated.
Only genuine investors bringing development to the area would be allowed to acquire land legally, following procedure.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe says the holding of the provincial investment expo separate from the International Trade Fair was because the two events had different objectives to meet.
Speaking when he featured on Millennium Radio’s Talk at 6 last evening, Mr Mwakalombe said the provincial investment expo slated for next week sought to showcase investment potential while the trade fair targeted already established companies.
He said the provincial administration was ready to host the expo despite a slight deficit in resources towards the successful holding of the six-day event.
Mr Mwakalombe sayid 99.9 percent of the resources had been mobilised from companies on the Copperbelt and that it was anticipated that 56 international companies would participate and about 68 local companies.
