Chingola in agro boost

- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

CHINGOLA will have more land for investment as degazetting of Luano forestry is underway to facilitate land development.

The council’s Public Relations Officer, Given Musambika, noted that the district was in the process of attracting more investors in line with economic diversification.

Mr Musambika was speaking in an interview at the Copperbelt Investment Expo at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola under the theme ‘Broadening the Economy Through Diversified Investment.`

He noted that the theme resonated well with the developmwent process being facilitated in Chingola, a predominantly mining area.

“As Chingola we have identified land to do with agriculture.

There is a place we have identified called Chifundamalya for agriculture and we are looking forward to partnering with investors to develop the land, “Mr Musambika said.

He said the degazetted process was almost complete.

Mr Musambika said 2000 industrial plots would be set up for agriculture, mining and tourism investment.

The expo has placed the thrust on tourism, agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries as well as mining.

Mr Musambika said Chingola was well positioned and would therefore distribute products to Solwezi, Mufulira, Chililabombwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He stated that the district had undergone a facelift including road construction which would enable the smooth transportation of goods. He said Chingola was well known for mining but wanted to diversify to agriculture as there was enough land for farming.

According to Mr Musambika, Chingola would soon be an agriculture giant spearheaded by small-scale farmers.

He said the district was well- placed to produce agricultural products on a large scale and therefore called on investors to partner with small scale farmers in the area.
