Upgraded John Howard roads cheer councillor

- By NOEL IYOMBWA

UPGRADING of roads to bituminous standard in John Howard has changed the face of the township and people’s livelihood, councillor Kafula Mutale has said.

Speaking in an interview, an elated Mr Mutale, said upgrading of the roads to bituminous standard had improved movement of people as well as goods and services in the area.

He said facilitating the roads project was among his notable achievements since he was voted into office.

He said rehabilitation of the public ablution block at Lumumba Market, commonly known as John Howard Market had also helped improve hygiene in the area.

Mr Mutale, however, bemoaned delays to complete the John Howard Market.

“It has taken a very long time to complete. Construction started in 2013. I have had to have the contract of the contractor who had abandoned site for a long time, terminated, because his works were shoddy.

“The council is at the contract signing stage with the new contractor that it has found. I want to take this opportunity to graciously thank the people of John Howard for the patience, understanding and resilience that they have exhibited during this period of constructing the market,” Mr Mutale said.

He assured the residents and traders in John Howard that the construction of the Market would finish before the end of 2021.

He said cited substance abuse, underage drinking, unregulated operating hours of bars and failure by residents to subscribe for Solid Waste Management.
