‘Prosecute illegal task force’
THOSE who spearheaded the illegal and unconstitutional persecution of former President Frederick Chiluba must be prosecuted, Chief Luchembe of Mpika has demanded.
And former UPND presidential adviser, Edward Mumbi, has said persons who served in the Task Force at the time are known and can easily be prosecuted.
“The fact that Levy Mwanawasa committed an impeachable offence by misleading Parliament, did not absolve the operatives who prosecuted Dr. Chiluba on criminal charges that were not approved by Parliament as required by the Constitution,” Mr. Mumbi said.
Mr Mumbi said people who violated the Constitution by prosecuting an innocent person must not be spared.
He said the Chiluba family had lost a lot of property through such illegalities hence the need to ensure that the law took its course.
“If government wants more evidence, it should appoint a Commission of Inquiry because some people like us have the evidence on what transpired,” he said.
And Mr Mumbi has requested the Bank of Zambia and the Ant- Corruption Commission (ACC) to tell the nation how much money was in Dr Chiluba’s account.
Mr Mumbi said it was important that the two institutions informed the nation on whether Dr Chiluba’s account was still intact or has been looted.
Meanwhile, Chief Chikwanda said the courts of law must take keen interest in the matter because the former President was illegally prosecuted.
Chief Luchembe told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday, it was important that the matter was dealt with conclusively.
He said it was important that the courts of law put things right to settle the dust.
Chief Luchembe observed that although it was wrong to discuss the dead, there was need to ensure that the matter was handled in the best way it deserved.
Chief Luchembe said it was prudent for the courts of law to tell the Zambians whether the former Head of State was legally prosecuted or not.
Chief Luchembe lamented that there was need for the court to set a precedence to stop illegalities in the country.
