Lungu commits SADC peace promotion

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has reaffirmed his Government commitment to promoting and strengthen­ing the region peace initiative and programmes during and even after Zambia’s chairmansh­ip of SADC organ on politics, defence and security cooperatio­n.

And President Lungu has urged his fellow Heads of State in Africa to strive to be the problem solvers of their own challenges.

President Lungu said this on Thursday evening during the state banquet hosted in honour of President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Felix Tshisekedi.

He said in uplifting the lives of the people, African leaders must continue addressing challenges of peace and security in their respective regions which is a prerequisi­te to developmen­t.

He commented President Tshisekedi for his efforts in restoring peace and stability in the DRC, as well as paving way for economic and political transforma­tion.

He said he was confident that Zambia and DRC would continue to strive to fulfil their bilateral and multilater­al obligation­s that would result in uplifting the livelihood­s of the people in the two countries and the region at large.

He said DRC has continued to be one of Zambia’s key trading and developmen­tal partners within the region.

Meanwhile, President Tshisekedi expressed optimism that the good relations and cooperatio­n between DRC and Zambia will continue.

President Tshisekedi thanked President Lungu and the Zambians for having warmly welcomed him together with his delegation.

He said his official visit to Zambia was a sign of good relations and cooperatio­n between the two countries which he would ensure are strengthen­ed during his tenure.

And President Tshisekedi says he is looking forward to working with President Lungu to promote economic prospects between the two nations.

President Tshisekedi has hailed talks with his counterpar­t bordering on regional economic integratio­n.

wwAnd earlier yesterday, President Edgar Lungu and his Congolese counterpar­t left for Ndola ahead of the official opening of Internatio­nal Trade Fair later in the day

The President Lungu departed aboard the Zambia Air Force at exactly 09:40hrs via Kenneth Kaunda Internatio­nal airport.
