M’membe told off

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

FRED M’membe should be the last person to talk about redeeming the country and improving the lives of Zambians as his selfishness was seen for failing to pay tax worth billions of National Democratic Congress national spokesperson Brian Chirambo has said.

Mr Chirambo said people like Dr M’membe were hiding in political circles to show as if he was a messiah when he had punished Zambians by not paying huge sums of money through tax.

What Mr M’membe did is still fresh in the minds of Zambians and being in politics will not hoodwink them, he said.

He was reacting to Dr M’membe who was quoted in the Mast newspaper saying that people were suffering and he had no time to wait of being the republican president.

But Mr Chirambo said the Zambian people need to check the calibre and character of the people that were presenting themselves for leadership.

He cautioned that some people were only joining politics so that when they were voted in power can secure the businesses and enrich themselves.

“The people of Zambia must make a choice based on the ideology and manifestos that the different political parties will present to them. But more importantly the people need to check the calibre and character of the people that are presenting themselves for leadership.

In the case of the Socialist Party and its leaders for example, it is our considered view that while socialist messages easily appeal to the masses those that suggest these options must be genuine and honest believers in what they say.

“Their personal lifestyle must demonstrate what they say even before they get into power. We must look into their history to see whether they believe in what they are saying or whether they will actually do what they say,” he said.

Mr Chirambo said people should never be swayed by mere ideologies because it was evident some people had a history of plundering the public resources.
