FIRST LADY ESTHER LUNGU TOUCHING LIVES

-

Dear editor, FIRST Lady Esther Lungu through her organisation, Esther Lungu Foundation Trust is uplifting the lives of many vulnerable people across the country. She has been in the forefront fighting child marriages and teenage pregnancies mostly in rural areas where these cases are rampant. This does not mean there are no such cases in urban areas. Of course there are isolated cases of the above named vices in urban areas as compared to rural areas. The First Lady also promotes good health among the people by encouraging people to eating the right type of foods so that they can stay healthy regardless of the age group. The issue of education at any level is close to her heart. This has, however, compelled the First Lady through her organisation to sponsor the vulnerable children access education. She does this through partnering with the well wishers such as corporate entities and individuals. This is because the task is a mammoth one which requires colossal sums of money to be executed efficiently. In the area of water and sanitation, her organization has sunk boreholes particularly in remote parts of the country where the problem is acute. The people afflicted with hunger have not been spared either. This is because the affected families have been assisted with relief food to ameliorate the hunger. On the economic aspect and as a way of mitigating suffering among the people, she empowers people with capital so that they can embark on income generating ventures. The works that the First Lady is doing through her organisation are many and varied. They are too many to itemise. Over and above everything else, the First Lady is a down to earth person. She is doing good works and consequently touching people's lives in one way or the other. In view of this, she deserves to be commended by all well meaning Zambians. ELEMIYA PHIRI, Lusaka.
