Girl (12) relives defilement ordeal

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl has told a Lusaka magistrate that she cannot count how many times her step-father defiled her.

She said the first time it happened, he threatened to kill her if she told anyone and she had been silent about it until the time she decided to tell her mother.

This is in a matter in which Namoya Sililo, 31, a driver of Lusaka’s Hillview Park in Chalala is charged with incest contrary to Section 159 (1) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia

In is alleged that on December 16, 2018 in Lusaka, Sililo had carnal knowledge of a 12-year-old whom to his knowledge is his daughter.

Testifying in the matter, the grade 6 girl told the court that on the material day her mother instructed her to carry her two- year-old sister and visit her grandmother within the same area.

She said when she got there, she only stayed a few minutes when Sililo requested that they visit his house.

The girl said when she got to his house, before she could settle down, Sililo held her by the hand and took her to his bedroom where he had carnal knowledge of her.

She described the act as painful.“When he finished he dressed up, gave us money for ice cream and sent us on our way home,” she said.

As trial continued Public Prosecutor Christopher Nyambe asked the girl if this was the first-time Sililo had carnal knowledge of her.

The girl said “I cannot remember how many times he has slept with me. He has done it many times. When he did it the first time he told me he would kill me if I told anyone,” she said.

She further told court that after she finally opened up to her mother, the matter was reported to Godfrey Miyanda police and Sililo was later apprehended.

The matter has been adjourned to July 22 for continued trial . Accused is on bail.

Upon arriving at Sililo’s home, I knocked at his house but no one was answering. Just when I was about leave, he opened the door and invited us in.
