Kafubu water taps agro

KAFUBU Water and Sewerage Company (KWSC) says it has continued to be innovative as a public sector enterprise in the provision of water and sanitation services on the Copperbelt.

The firm is moving with time in innovation and is supporting the agriculture sector through provision of manure from treated sewerage matter.

KWSC Public Relations Manager, Mutolo Mwamba, said the company had embarked on a number of innovative programmes to efficiently provide services to the people on the Copperbelt.

She was speaking in an interview at the on-going Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Ndola.

She said the company was using treated sewerage to support the agriculture sector as the sludge was used as manure by the farmers.

“With treated sewerage, which is also known as sludge, we are using it to support the agriculture sector because many farmers especially in the banana plantation use it as manure. The sludge is cheap, hence, promoting the agriculture industry, the farmers to be specific,” she said.

Ms Mwamba said the company would launch pre- paid and post-paid meters next month in Ndola’s Masala and Chifubu Townships.

The two areas, she said, had been identified because they were densely populated.

Ms Mwamba said the company was only waiting for the first bunch of 9,000 meters to start the installation process.

She also said KWSC intended to install networks in Mitengo and Dolla Hill due to an increase in population in the two new residential areas.

Ms Mwamba expressed happiness for scooping two prizes of the most innovative public sector enterprise as well as best exhibitor utility company.

She added that in line with the ZITF theme, ‘ inclusive growth through entrepreneurship,’ the utility company was providing the commodity to small and medium enterprises such as salons, barbershops and restaurants.
