If ratified by Parliament, Dr Miti will take over from Dr Roland Msiska who has been deployed at Zambia Atomic Energy Corporation (ZAMATOM) as Director General.

THERE is no any other name that is better qualified to occupy the position of Secretary to the Cabinet at the moment than Dr Simon Miti, Patriotic Front Deputy Media Director Antonio Mwanza has said.

Mr Mwanza said Dr Miti’s vast academic and professional qualifications made him the best occupant for the position.

President Lungu has appointed Dr Miti as Secretary to the Cabinet who has served in various government positions including Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary and Principal Private Secretary to the President.

If ratified by Parliament,

Dr Miti will take over from Dr Roland Msiska who has been deployed at Zambia Atomic Energy Corporation (ZAMATOM) as Director General.

The appointment

has however, not been welcomed by some sections, who are now calling on President Lungu to reverse his decision.

But Mr Mwanza told the Daily Nation in an interview those against the appointment of Dr Miti on allegations of corruption were just being petty and ridiculous.

He clarified Dr Miti had never been cited or investigated by any investigative wing on corruption charges.

He said Dr Miti only appeared in court as a state witness in the case of former Ministry of Health Human Resource Officer Henry Kapoko and four others and not as an accused person.

“Those that are saying Dr Miti should not be given the position because he has been involved in corruption cases when served as Ps at the Ministry of health are being ridiculous. The truth of the matter is, Dr Miti has never appeared in any courts of law as an accused person in a criminal

matter, he has never been convicted by any court of law, and he has a clean record. He only appeared in court not as an accused person, but as a state witness in the case of Henry Kapoko.

“In fact the evidence that Dr Miti gave to the court, help the court to secure conviction in that case, but he was never an accused person,” Mr Mwanza said.

He said the civil service was a crucial wing of Government that needed someone with a remarkable academic as academic as well as professional qualification to run it, saying Dr Miti was the best person for the position.

“There is no other name suitable to run the service than Dr Miti, as a party we are very delighted by this appointment. Knowing his vast academic and professional qualifications that he holds, we are looking forward and urging parliament to ratify his appointment,” Mr Mwanza said.
