Kansanshi Mine Public Relations Manager, Godfrey Msiska, said the mining company would continue working closely with Government in the provision of education in the region.

He said the mining firm attached great importance to education hence the continued support to the sector.

Mr Msiska was speaking when the mining firm handed over 400 text books to the provincial library in Solwezi yesterday.

‘’As long as we continue operating here, we will continue working closely with the Government in ensuring that we improve the learner performance in the region,’’ Mr Msiska said.

He said Kansanshi believed in putting education as priority through the provision of learning materials to schools within its catchment area.

He said in a quest to improve the education stands in the province, there was need for pupils to develop the culture of reading.

And North Western Province Education Officer Grace Sinkolongo, said libraries played a big role in information storage. She said this in a speech read by the Senior Education Standards Officer Rodida Hampondela. Ms Sinkolongo said libraries provided information for people to read and share knowledge on different cultural and other values.

She said that Government has introduced classroom libraries as a measure to address the problem of low reading levels among school going children.

Ms Sinkolongo stated that the Ministry of Education was working hard to improve the services of schools, colleges and public libraries.

This is being done by embracing Information Communication Technology (ICT) facilities which she said is working in line with the Seventh National Development Plan.

‘’And as you may be aware, the Seventh National Development Plan is premised on not leaving anyone behind in all aspects of growth,’’ she said.

Libraries provided information for people to read and share knowledge on different cultural and other values.
