EQUIP MARINE POLICE ADEQUATELY, GOVT TOLD

YALELO fish farm company Director Fisho Mwale has called for adequate equipping of the Marine Police operating on Lake Kariba in Siavonga district.

Rodney Chilongo a lake operations manager and Isaac Banda a security supervisor were on Friday involved in a water accident while carryout their duties on Lake Kariba.

The deceased bodies have since been retrieved and buried in Siavonga and Lusaka respective­ly.

Mr. Mwale further said the quick response by government to the

accident shows how much it values the contributi­on by the private sector to the economic developmen­t of the country.

And Government has advised companies operating on Lake Kariba to ensure that they adhere to strict safety standards.

Siavonga district commission­er Lovemore Kanyama stated in a statement to the Daily

Mr. Mwale who is also Aquacultur­e Developmen­t Associatio­n of Zambia (ADAZ) chairman, said there is need to equip the Marine section at Kariba for it to respond to emergencie­s efficientl­y.

“While we appreciate the quick response from the marine officers, there are certain things that must be put in place to ensure the marine section operate efficientl­y. For instance, simple things like search lights and diving kits are not available,” he said.

He was speaking when Southern Province Permanent Secretary Mwangala Liomba visited the company to check on the search operation for two yalelo senior employees who drown in the lake on Friday last week.
