Mr Chanda said the PF had always known that the alliance would soon crumble because UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwili were “birds of the same feather”.

He said the duo was so obsessed with leadership for personal aggrandisement that they could never want to be led by another person as their past spoke volumes about their desperate desire for national leadership. Mr Chanda was speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation. “Like we have always said, the opposition alliance is a group of selfish and desperate individuals who are only interested in having the instruments of power. Unfortunately, the desperation of the opposition alliance is not providing any solution.

“The failure by the two to come up with one candidate in the Lubwa ward Local Government by-elections has exposed them for what they really are,” Mr Chanda said.

He said he sympathised with Mr Kambwili because he did not seem to learn from Mr Hichilema’s past power hungry displays where he almost hoodwinked the PF into believing that he was better than late Michael Sata. “Mr Hichilema has failed to work with alliances for many years now. He failed to work with late Levy Mwanawasa, Sakwiba Sikota, Patrick Chisanga, and dith Nawakwi. He also failed to work with late Michael Sata.

“He purged out people like Richard Kapita, Canisius Banda, Edward Mumbi, eoffrey Mwamba, and many others from the UPND. He tried to forge an alliance with Nevers Mumba but failed. Is that the person Mr. Kambwili thinks he can work with ” he asked.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chanda has assured the party top leadership that his team will ensure that they scoop the Lubwa by-election.

“We want to assure our top leadership that the provincial executive will put up a campaign that is issue-based and nonviolent. We will explain what the PF has done and is doing to the people of Lubwa Ward,” he said.

receives Constituency Development Funds (CDF) which can be utilised for such purposes.

“Surely we do not expect the minister or the President to come in over this matter when there are responsible public officers who are paid for the work they do.

If this bad work culture is not checked, it will be very difficult for the country to attain meaningful development,” Mr Mtayachalo said.

He called on the Ministry of Local Government to ensure that cemeteries were maintained as a way of respecting the dead. Meanwhile, Mr Mtayachalo said FDD was concerned with the demolition of structures which had rocked the city in recent years.

“We also want to advise Ndola residents to desist from using short-cuts in acquiring land but should instead follow established legal channels. They should ensure that such sale agreements are verified before transacting to avoid risking their structures being demolished,” he said.
