Chongwe water project gets K5m boost

- By JOHN KOMBE

Mr. Mwanza said during an interview that Government had paid K5m to the contractor, Zambezi Drilling Company.

He said the contractor had confirmed receipt of the funds and had promised to recommence the works on the remaining 8km of the piping works.

“They have promised to complete the works in two months, but we hope they can reduce the time frame as this was a very critical undertaking,” he said.

Mr. Mwanza also said that, he had since advised the contractor to get back to site immediately. This he said would help to ensure that the project is accelerated.

He thanked President Edgar Lungu for the quick response to the cries of the people. He observed that this was a clear indication that government had attached great importance to the plight of its people.

Mr. Mwanza also said the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) was supplying water in bowsers to help in the water crisis.

He emphasised that this was not a permanent solution and would only be done during the period when the Ntanishya water project was being done.

Government was not after soothing the problem, but eradicating it for good. He was hopeful that, the project once completed, would alleviate the people’s suffering.

Mr. Mwanza was confident that the project would be completed soon as government had shown its resolve to see the project completed.
