UNVEIL NOMINEES, FAZ TOLD
…as transitional league awards categories are named without nominees
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga would present the presidential award.
THERE is need for the Football Association of Zambia to release the names of the players shortlisted for the transitional MTN/FAZ League awards to promote transparency, Zambia Football Fans Association (ZAFFA) has said.
Speaking in an interview ZAFFA general secretary Katwizi Chawezi said the associations’ failure to unveil the players nominated for the awards would raise suspicions among clubs and the general public.
“It doesn’t make sense and us as stakeholders of the game we would like to see that the awards are held in a transparent way because we follow the games and know which players deserve to be nominated,” Chawezi said.
FAZ has announced the date for the 2019 Transitional MTN/FAZ Super Division awards which will see top performers, Austin Muwowo, Bruce Musakanya and Lazarous Kambole competing for the inaugural fans Player of the Year Award.
FAZ and the awards committee have, however, refused to disclose the names of the players nominated for the Player of the Year, the Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Most Disciplined Player of the Year and Best Referee of the Year.
FAZ vice president Rix Mweemba said FAZ president Andrew Kamanga would present the presidential award while Napsa Stars striker Laurent Mavungo, Forest Rangers’ Adam Zikiru and Austin Muwowo were set to scoop the Top Scorers’ Award for their 10 goals scored apiece during the transitional period.
Speaking during yesterday’s press brie ng at football house, Mweemba hailed players and clubs for their dedication during the transitional period.
