ZAF dragged to court over K100, 000 rentals

- By NATION REPORTER

A LUSAKA resident has sued Zambia Air Force (ZAF) through Attorney General Likando Kalaluka for allegedly refusing to pay over K100, 000 rentals on his property.

According to his statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Blackwell Singoyi stated that ZAF breached the tenancy agreement and that he had suffered loss and damage.

Mr Singoyi claimed that in February 2010 he entered into a tenancy agreement with ZAF where it was agreed that ZAF would be paying a monthly rental of K5, 000 payable in advance once every three moth.

“The plaintiff entered into a tenancy agreement in writing dated 13 February 2010 made between the plaintiff and Zambia Air Force Headquarters Station wherein it was agreed that ZAF being the tenant shall pay a monthly sum of K5, 000 as rental fees for property number 403/100 Ibex Hill, Lusaka payable in advance once every three month, read part of the claim. He stated that ZAF in breach of the tenancy agreement had failed to pay the rental amount as agreed.

Mr Singoyi claimed that the outstanding rental amount arrears were now amounting to K106, 225. 80 for the period July 20, 2012 to December 20, 2013. He stated that despite several reminders to ZAF to settle the said unpaid rent, ZAF had refused and neglected to settle the said amount.

And now Mr Singoyi is demanding payment of the amount due, an order for payment of a refund of K18, 348. 59 being the monies for the repair works done due to damage caused by ZAF at the said premises.
