Paid up retired teachers must vacate houses - Lusambo
RETIRED teachers from both Kabulonga Boys and Girls Secondary Schools who have received full retirement package should leave the houses as Government has no intentions of selling them, Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo has said.
Mr Lusambo is also disappointed that some teachers especially from Kabulonga Girls upon being transferred to schools, were presenting fake marriage certificates to the school administration.
Mr Lusambo expressed concern that despite retired officers being given all their terminal benefits, they still occupied institutional houses meant for serving officers.
Mr Lusambo said this when he held a meeting with teachers from both schools at Kabulonga Girls Secondary School yesterday.
He said retired teachers still occupying houses would soon be flashed out because their stay was illegal and against the republican Constitution.
He said he would soon convene a meeting with minister of General Education David Mabumba to restore sanity in the Education sector by ensuring that serving officers occupied the houses.
"Government has no intension of selling the teachers houses to any sitting tenant, be it Kabulonga or Munali Secondary
School, therefore retired personnel should just vacant the houses before I visit them," said Mr Lusambo.
And Kabulonga Girls Head mistress Maria Pwele said the school was facing challenges in teams of accommodation and that out of the 67 housing units only 34 houses were occupied by serving officers and that had impacted on teachers performance.
Meanwhile, Kabulonga Boys Headmaster John Nalili said the school had 160 housing units within the school and teachers transferred to other schools have refused to vacant the houses and only one teacher has moved out. Provincial Education Officer Christopher Sinkamba said the ministry is worried as the situation was difficult for the school to deliver quality results as most teachers were residing far from the schools.
