Let’s call a spade a spade, politics is not about character assassination

-

Dear Editor,

A MOVE or rather a decision to allow students to write exams with outstanding balances at the University of Zambia was implemented by Professor Nkandu Luo.

My fellow citizens, allow me to categorically state that the move to allow students to write exams at UNZA was implemented by Prof Luo. Many of you are issuing unpalatable statements about Prof Luo insinuating that she didn’t allow the students to write exams, go and ask any students she or he will tell you that everyone wrote the exams.

Dr Brian Mushimba is just new, and he has not yet even started implementing his ideas. Exams were written a very long time before Dr Mushimba took office.

I want to suggest that we need to grow in politics from creating propaganda and character assassination to political democracy and character building.

Prof Luo is human as well, she might have made one or two mistakes as minister of Higher Education but this propaganda you have launched surely suggests that you hardly understand how the University of Zambia operates and the ministry at large. As a minister, you do not make decisions alone, there are a lot of stakeholders usually involved before reaching a consensus. A minister doesn’t issue any decision before any consultations from the government and relevant authorities.

She has worked very hard to reach where she is now and the best thing we can do as a party is to stop attacking one another and wok for the good of the party. Many people who often make unpalatable comments about Prof Luo don’t really understand the education system and it’s hard for such people to make sound analysis of how things work. This is the time we need to work cooperatively as a party because we are heading towards polls in 2021.

Let us refrain from cheap politics of handouts, don’t get money from people to demean people who mean well for a common man in Zambia, that is being subjective and lack of self-esteem getting money just to create propaganda to demean a minister. Prof Luo has worked hard as minister of Higher Education and she is in the other ministry and so she still needs our support like never before.

Most importantly, we need peace, unity and reconciliation, one Zambia one nation. We all need one and the same thing which is development. Let’s us work and support each other and criticise if necessary.
