Liquid empowers Kitwe school
DEVINE Community School of Wusakile in Kitwe has received a block making machine and 30 pockets of cement from Liquid Telecom Zambia.
The primary school depends on donations from well- wishers to effectively deliver services to the learners.
Liquid Telecom Zambia head of sales and marketing Bernadette Moffya said the block making machine was an empowerment initiative that would help the community school to sustainably generate resources to finance its operations.
Speaking during a handover ceremony at the school, Ms Moffya said the block making machine would help the school raise money for building the classrooms and future projects. She said education was one of the cornerstones of the company's corporate social responsibility and strategic focus.
Schools like Devine Community School greatly helped children with the opportunity to be shaped into individuals who would drive the development agenda of the country.
Ms Moffya said Liquid Telecom valued the spirit of innovation, hard work and focus on development, which was only possible if education was prioritised. Devine Community School head teacher Joseph Bwalya thanked the company for the swift response. Mr Bwalya said the school had contacted the company to help it build a classroom block for learners.
He said last year the school experienced torrential rains which blew the roof off a classroom block.
Speaking as guest of honour Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu said it was important to have good facilities, which he observed were not at the school. Mr Mpundu urged other institutions, both public and private, to partner with Government to accelerate efforts to achieve development.
