Paid protesters exposed

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

‘‘Evidence was there to show that some members of the civil society organisations were handsomely paid to denounce government with accusations of corruption.’’

SOME yellow card protesters have been paid by a known opposition political party to discredit the government, Christian Democratic Party leader Danny Pule has said. Dr Pule said evidence was there to show that some members of the civil society organisations were handsomely paid to denounce government with accusations of corruption. He said in an interview yesterday, well known activists and others were the ones who were corrupt by accepting bribes to protest against the government. Dr Pule said that the group of disgruntled civil society organisations protested against the government in order to please their paymasters. But Dr Pule insisted that the CSOs who protested were driven by the money which was given to them by a certain political party. “Some of us we are aware that these people belong to a certain political party and that is not disputable, the same political party was funding them to discredit President Edgar Lungu and his government,” he said. A receipt is circulating on the social media that some CSOs were paid about K500, 000 to denounce President Lungu. “Zambians should ignore those corruption allegations because we know that these protesters were paid. “We really know that these CSOs are part of the certain political party and that is why they are busy discrediting the government,” Dr Pule said. But when contact for a comment, one of the organisers declined to comment.
