Chisamba bridge rehab in K171, 000 boost

- By SANDRA MACHIMA

CHISAMBA Town Council has released K171, 100 to rehabilitate Mututu Bridge which had become a danger to school going children and other users as it was in a bad state.

Public relations officer Nancy Chenga said so far all the necessary materials had been bought and the works had begun.

Mututu Bridge is about 98 kilometres from Chisamba Town and also a link for Muswishi Ward residents and other travellers to easily get to Kabwe Town in Central Province.

Ms Chenga said the people were finding it difficult to move from one place to another because the bridge was in a deplorable state.

“Chisamba Town Council had noted with great concern the deplorable state of the bridge after the council secretary, in company of all heads of department, visited the Mututu Bridge to check on the status. The money has been released to ensure the works are completed on time,” she said.

“It was at this point that the council had to quickly mobilise resources under the Local Government Equalisation Fund for the reinforcement and rehabilitation of the Mututu Bridge because it had become a danger to the residents of Muswishi Ward even making it more difficult for school going children,” Ms Chenga she said.

She said the local authority was committed to serving the residents in a more effective way while giving credit to Government for its consistency to release the Local Government Equalisation Fund.

“We would also like to commend the efforts and the spirit of oneness which the residents of Muswishi Ward have exhibited by working together with the officers of the department of works to see to it that this project was a success,” she said.

Ms Chenga said the local authority also had other CDF projects in the pipeline among them, renovation of Chilukutu Dip Tank, the completion of one by three classroom block at Kizito Primary School and completion of staff houses at Nkonje Primary School.
