‘DON’T USE TRIBE TO DIVIDE ZAMBEZI’
SENIOR Chief Ndungu of the Luvale speaking people has warned politicians not to use tribe to divide people of Zambezi. The traditional leader said some politicians want to use tribalism to solicit support from the people ahead of 2021 general elections.
Senior Chief Ndungu said the people
of Zambezi have lived in harmony together for a number of years without going for each other’s throat.
‘’Inter-marriages between Lundas and Luvales are all over in Zambezi and people are living happily. But this noise is being created by politicians will not tolerated,’’ he said.
The traditional leader said these words when North-Western Province Patriotic Front chairperson Jackson Kungo called on him at his palace.
He said purported tribal wrangles in Zambezi were purely being championed by selfish individuals with political interests.
He said the move by Government to create another constituency was well intended as it would bring development closer to the people.
‘’But this is very dangerous because we cannot divide people on tribal lines,’’ he said.
He stated that he would take the bull by its horn in ensuring that the wrangles were brought to an end.
‘’So my appeal to the politicians is that they should not base their political intentions on tribal lines. Let me also take this opportunity to assure the nation that this will never happen again,’’ he added.
And Mr Kungo said the party in the province would not allow a situation where the opposition would derail developmental programmes aimed at improving the living standards of the people by dividing the people on tribal lines.
He said what happened in Zambezi recently was purely a stage-managed conflict by members of a named opposition political party.
‘’And if we are not careful, these selfish individuals will plunge not only this province but the entire country in chaos,’’ he said.
