‘No more indecent houses’

- By SIMON MUNTEMBA in Chinsali

THE old indecent offices and housing for security officers belong to the past and will never be built in Zambia again, President Edgar Lungu has said.

And President Lungu has assured all officers operating and living in old dilapidated infrastructure that help was on the way.

Mr Lungu made the remarks yesterday when he commissioned and handed over the K22.2 million state-of-the-art Muchinga Division Police Headquarters in Chinsali District.

“The old indecent offices and housing for our security officers belong to the past and will never be built in Zambia again.

“We shall, therefore, continue to build decent office accommodation and housing befitting our hardworking security officers,” Mr Lungu said.

President Lungu said his administration will not shy from rebuilding infrastructure.

He said as long as the PF remains in power, they shall continue to build provincial capitals to bring the services closer to the people.

President Lungu noted that most of the infrastructure for public security services in Zambia were in a deplorable state due to tear and wear as they were built in the 1950s and 1960s.

Speaking earlier, Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo urged the

police to take good care of the facility.

Mr Kampyongo also said the new facility should motivate police officers to work hard and continue to maintain law and order.

Senior Chief Nkula who was present with several other traditional leaders thanked the government for delivering developmental projects in the region.

Senior Chief Nkula said he was happy that the government had commissioned the Muchinga Police Headquarters and Isoka Trades Training Institute among other projects.
