Livingstone Intercity Bus Terminus interim committee created
Council public relations manager Melvin Mukela disclosed that the committee which was led by Chewe Chewe of Khondwani Bus Services was unshared into office last Wednesday after elections at the Civic Centre. Mr Mukela said in an interview that for now, the committee would conduct its operations at the current bus station awaiting further instruction on the way forward once the new station was completed. He said currently, the council and NAPSA had agreed on how the Intercity was supposed to be managed, and would advise the interim committee. "We have resolved as a local authority to have an interim committee for the bus station. For now, we have advised the committee to operate from the old bus station because the intercity is still under construction by Zambia National Service (ZNS)," he said. "Initially, the committee thought it was going to start operating from the new station but since we do not know how the financier, NAPSA would want the station to be operated, we advised them to wait for that decision," he said. Mr Mukela said the interim committee was supposed to be for two years and the council has the mandate to dissolve it if need arose. Meanwhile, Mr Mukela has expressed disappointment after supporters of some members in the committee engaged in physical fights which resulted in assault cases. According to him, there were two camps contesting the positions which led to the misunderstanding. It was later revealed that one camp were supported by the UPND while the other was backed by PF. THE Livingstone City Council (LCC) has authorised the creation of an interim committee for the Intercity bus terminus, scheduled for completion in February next year.
