PUBLIC WORKERS URGED TO UP PERFORMANCE
INTRODUCTION of performancebased contracts for civil servants is progressive and must be supported by all Zambians, Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary, Joyce Nsamba has said. Speaking when she addressed district commissioners and district administrative officers in Isoka, Ms Nsamba said putting all civil servants on performance contacts was the only way to attain high productivity and development. “President Lungu issued a directive to put all civil servants on performancebased contracts, this is very progressive and should be embraced by all,” Ms Nsamba said. Ms Nsamba said there was need for every civil servant, regardless of their positions to be given targets and be held accountable against their deliverables. Ms Nsamba said it was the responsibilities of all civil servants to deliver development in line with government programmes and policies. She said civil servants were a backbone of service delivery and policy implementation and that it was necessary that every individual put in their best to develop the country. “Anywhere in the world where development has been attained, an effective and efficiency civil service has been at the centre,” Ms Nsamba said. Ms Nsamba said there was need for effective and efficient civil servants if Zambia was to develop to the desired level. And Ms Nsamba has advised district commissioners to embrace teamwork in the execution of their duties at all levels of administration. “As members of the same team, appointed by the same appointing authority, let us focus less on the ‘I’ and concentrate on the shared goal and vision to improve the welfare of the people,” She said. Ms Nsamba said there was need to work as a team with a shared goal to improve the welfare of the people in the province and the country at large. Ms Nsamba also called for change of attitude towards work by leaders so that they could set an example to the people they supervise so that they could also have a positive attitude towards work.
