UPND dissolves faltering Kitwe party structures
THE UPND has dissolved its Chimwemwe constituency and Kitwe district executive committees, following the disintegration of structures and the humiliating loss of Lubwa ward in the just ended local government by-elections.
Provincial trustee, Abraham Mulemba said the party in the a ected areas was now rocked with squabbles and non-performance.
Mr Mulemba said the dissolutions were an internal matter which would be dealt with administratively, and that there was no need to publicise it in the media.
But, Copperbelt provincial information and publicity secretary Kennedy Kalunga con rmed the dissolutions to the Daily Nation in Kitwe, saying the move was a step towards the party's preparation for the 2021 elections. "Yes, I can confirm that the Chimwemwe constituency and Kitwe district executive committees have been dissolved as a way of preparing for 2021 elections. We have done this in Chililabombwe and other districts,'' Mr Kalunga said.
Mr Mulemba, who was present in the meeting on Saturday when the dissolutions were being made, however, told the Daily Nation that the constituency and district executive committees were dissolved due to the squabbles and non-performance.
"We had a provincial meeting on Saturday where the Chimwemwe constituency and Kitwe district executive committees were dissolved due to squabbles and non-performance.
"In Chimwemwe constituency, there has been squabbles, which has led to its dissolution, while the Kitwe district executive committees has been dissolved for non-performance,'' said one of the trustees who was in the meeting.
