Siavonga MP connects with voters
SIAVONGA Member of Parliament Darius Mulunda has assured residents of Kanyelele Compound that he will engage the Southern Water and Sewerage Company (SWASCO) and ensure that the water shortages affecting the area were resolved. constituency during the Parliament recess which began last week.
Failure by SWASCO to invest in water reticulation, severe hunger situation, planed construction of a market place at the Upper Kanyelele and poor road network were among the hottest issues discussed during the interaction.
The residents called on Mr Mulunda to move in and ensure that SWASCO upgraded the main pipe that supplies water to the area.
They complained that unlike Zesco Limited which provided poles and main cables when connecting new customers, the water utility was in the habit of asking applicants to provide their own pipes and other items before water was connected to their premises.
“SWASCO is not investing and is only interested in making profit at the expense of providing service to the people,” one of the residents said. Mr Mulunda assured the residents that he had noted all their complaints and would engage relevant authorities to ensure the challenges were resolved. He said through his engagement with the relevant authorities, he had managed to lobby for a water reticulation project that would see the construction of three water tanks with a capacity to supply water to all the townships in the district.
Mr Mulunda said the water reticulation project to be implemented in 2020 would not only lead to improved supply but also allow SWASCO to connect water to new settlements.
