Mwitwa too overzealous - Tutwa

- By AARON CHIYANZO

LAW Association of Zambia (LAZ) president Eddie Mwitwa is too overzealous to continue ignoring calls for corrective measures to his blunder, Lusaka lawyer and Government Deputy Chief Whip Tutwa Ngulube has said.

Mr Ngulube advised Mr Mwitwa to now save himself from further embarrassment following the decision by the Speaker for National Assembly, Dr Patrick Matibini to proceed to consider the Constitution Amendment Bill number 10 of 2019 despite attempts by the Law Association of Zambia to halt the process through a court action.

He reiterated that Mr Mwitwa was warned several times after he had made the mistake of using the association to advance his personal agenda and that the move would not yield anything.

Mr Ngulube urged Mr Mwitwa to withdraw the matter where LAZ had sued the President, Attorney General and National Assembly, saying the association would incur unnecessary legal fees.

He said that the dismissal of Mr Mwitwa’s application to parliament should serve as a warning shot that he was making wrong moves.

Mr Ngulube also warned that LAZ would suffer ridicule and embarrassment if Mr Mwitwa continued on a path of unnecessary overzealousness.

“Exactly what I told Mr Mwitwa is what the Speaker said, I told him that you cannot stop parliament in such a way. The letter by the Speaker is a clear indication that Mr Mwitwa is offside,” he said.

Mr Ngulube wondered how Mr Mwitwa, whom he said was a State Counsel would not foresee that the proceedings in court might just be an academic exercise.

He said that the behaviour of Mr Mwitwa was a clear sign that his intentions were questionable and did not mean well for the country.

Mr Ngulube pointed out that even some of the resolutions that LAZ and its friends were objecting to, were actually progressive.
