MORE DEMAND LAZ’S WITHDRAW OF CASE AGAINST LUNGU

- By SILUMESI MALUMO and MUYANI SHINJABALE

MORE people have demanded that the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) withdraws the legal suit against President Edgar Lungu and Speaker of National Assembly Patrick Matibini now that its petition to halt the Constitution Amendment Bill process has been rejected.

Government Deputy Chief Whip Tutwa Ngulube said the case before the Constitutional Court would not yield any results because Dr Matibini had ruled against petition.

Mr Ngulube who said the ght for the Constitutional Amendment Bill had come to an end after the positive ruling by Dr Matibini and the Amendment Bill would go ahead.

He said Law Association of Zambia

(LAZ) President Eddie

Mwitwa and his friend John Sangwa should know that they do not mean well for the country that was why their petition had been rejected.

“The Speaker has done a greater job by

ruling against people who are ghting the bill because of their sel sh interest. hat has been

done was for the interest of the nation,” Mr Ngulube said.

And a Lusaka business and PF member Chrisantius Changwereza it was only when people ignore logic and become blinded with politics that they stray away from what was legally right.

“This is the case at hand, were legal minds opt for that which they know is untenable. That case against the President is null and void,” said Mr Changwereza.

Mr Changwereza urged LAZ to withdraw the case against the Head of State and save itself from embarrassment.

And independent Churches of Zambia (ICOZ) also advised LAZ to withdraw the case before the Constitutional Court and present its concerns before the Parliamentary Committee.

Council member Charles Mumba, said it was disheartening to see professionals who were supposed to give guidance were the ones causing confusion.

ishop umba during a press brie ng

yesterday said LAZ was hypocritical because its members had participated at National Dialogue Forum.

He stated that LAZ had its inputs included in the Constitution Amendment Bill therefore it was unwise to start

ghting against its

own inputs.
