- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ZESCO United coach, Goerge Lwandamina, has urged Zesco United followers not to judge the team based on its failure to win the 2019 Charity Shield.

Speaking in an interview, after guiding his team to a 1-0 defeat to Zanaco FC at Woodlands Stadium on Saturday, Lwandamina said Zesco United was progressing gradually ahead of the 2019/2019 FAZ League set to kick off on August 31.

Lwandamina said he was happy with the way his team played despite having lost the charity shield to Zanaco.

“The performance was very good, we are progressing gradually. Don’t get surprised if we win the fourth championship because we are able to resist up to the last game,” Lwandamina said.

“We beat Zanaco when we were at pick and most of the teams had gone down, now we are starting gradually and that is football. This team is

ust o ay don’t udge us by this loss. Don’t even start

thinking that we have to buy new players, buying who from where?” he asked.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Province minister Bowman Lusambo has consoled Zesco United players for losing to Zanaco.

Lusambo, who was the guest of honor during

the harity Shield nal at

Woodlands Stadium, also hailed Eden University for partnering with FAZ to introduce a FAZ Division one charity shield which was eventually won by National Assembly who edged Young Green Eagles 1-0 to bag the inaugural title.

And Zanaco FC coach, Mumamba Numba, says the Charity Shield victory over Zesco United has motivated the team as they prepared for the new soccer season.

He said the game against Zesco United highlighted where the bankers need to improve ahead of the new league set to kick off on August 31.

“We are very excited with the victory after playing a better team like Zesco. It

wasn’t an easy game but we

controlled most parts of the game and our team looked more composed on the ball so it is a good thing that we have gotten a win today,” Numba said.
