Few bad eggs denting LAZ

- By CHARLES MUSONDA

NOT everyone in the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) is siding with the opposition but a few individuals, a clergyman has charged.

In an interview yesterday, Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) Archbishop Peter Ndhlovu said the individuals in question have made LAZ to seem compromised on the Constitution Amendment Bill number 10 arising from the National Dialogue Forum (NDF) resolutions.

"We are looking to LAZ as a mirror to help us govern and interpret the law but what we are seeing today is that LAZ is

compromised. It is not everyone but a few individuals are denting LAZ's image.

" ere's no need to go to court over this issue because it can be sorted and it has already been sorted out. It seems LAZ has no regard for what happened in Parliament," Archbishop Ndhlovu said.

He said the association must not be seen to be siding with the opposition so that whoever is aggrieved can be free to approach it for help.

Archbishop Ndhlovu said it is unfortunate that some people can criticise the NDF, which was held through an Act of Parliament.

He added that politicians must understand that there are no short cuts to State House.

"You cannot enter State House through the backdoor no matter what happens. It can never happen because there can always be one President at a time.

"If there are people who are under pressure to please their paymasters they must wait for 2021," he said.

e clergyman said it is clear that some opposition leaders have turned their parties into pressure groups for certain causes and once those causes nish, they become irrelevant.

"I call on the opposition not to be pressure groups but to provide checks and balances," he said.
