Opposition parties a l do n - ondo

- By KALOBWE BWALYA

THE Opposition Alliance in Zambia is weak and lacks direction to provide proper checks and balances, says former National Restoration Party (NAREP) spokesperson Bwalya Nondo.

Mr Nondo said the opposition lacked direction and could never form government anytime soon.

Mr. Nondo, who is also former NAREP chairperson for Information, said there was too much bitterness and negativity amongst the opposition political parties. “this is not healthy for a country like Zambia.”

He said he decided to ditch the opposition and join the ruling party because the opposition had betrayed the people by failing to provide effective checks and balances.

“The opposition in Zambia has betrayed the people. They have failed to provide quality and effective checks and balances. This makes the opposition in the country weak and lacks direction,” he said.

PF Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri said the ruling party was not segregative as it treated all members equally.

Ms Phiri said she was confident that Mr Nondo would add value to the party as he was joining a team that was focused on delivering the much needed development in the country. She has urged the party members to accommodate the new members in the PF.

Meanwhile, Ms Phiri challenged Mr Musa Mwenya to tell the country on what they did together with former Vice President Dr Guy Scott in 2015 when he got instruments of power from Edgar Lungu and gave them to Dr Scott.

She said Mr. Mwenya should be the last person to talk about the National Dialogue Forum as he almost caused a national crisis when he failed to interpret the National Constitution.

Ms Phiri recalled that during the constitution making process under the MMD, the lawyers failed to come up with an appropriate national constitution despite being part of the National Constitution Conference (NCC).

“Let him tell us what they did together with the former Vice President Dr Guy Scott, by grabbing the instruments of power from Edgar Lungu, the person who was then given power and giving them to Dr Scott who was never even given a chance to act as President of this country when the late President Michael Data was alive,” said Ms Phiri.

Speaking earlier, PF member of the Central Committee, Kebby Mbewe, said the defections were a sign that the PF was not going to have difficulties in remaining in office beyond 2021.

Mr. Mbewe said the party had continued to receive new members who had seen the developmental works under President Lungu.
