LWSC, stop charging customers without running water

- ELEMIYA PHIRI, Lusaka.

Dear Editor,

THE Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Limited (LWSC) should stop charging customers without the commodity in Lusaka’s Lilanda West Extension commonly known as Zingalume Township.

This is justifiable and it is the way to go. This is because the water taps have had no running water for some time now.

People should pay for the available service, water unlike what is happening at the moment.

Charging customers for water which is not available is daylight robbery and this should not be condoned. However, House Number 545/05 for Mr. Austin Mikondo of Lilanda West Extension or Zingalume is the case in point.

Mr. Mikondo and many other customers in the area are paying for water which is non existent.

My simple question begging for an answer is: Are the Water Engineers and some pump attendants at the utility firm not aware about the water blues in this residential area? I am sure they are aware and they are doing it deliberately.

If they are not aware, then this platform will create an awareness and they should address this issue with the urgency it deserves.

I am sure Zingalume is not the only area in Lusaka facing water blues or rather water crisis and yet customers are paying for the non existent commodity every month. This is very unfortunate that the utility firm is benefitting by receiving money from its customers despite the latter not benefitting through utilisation of water.

My humble appeal to LWSC management is that it should stop demanding for payments for water when it is not available.

If this is not bad enough, the company should consider refunding the customers for the months they did not have water.
