16 to tee off in Windhoek Lager tourney
ABOUT 16 golfers will this Saturday, step on the golf course of the Ndola Golf Club to compete in the Windhoek Lager International Pairs (WILPA) South African golf tournament.
The winners of the national championship will represent the country in Portugal at the international tournament which will take place from November 23 to 24, 2019.
Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) vice-president North and Convener of the Tournament Allan Nyirenda said the tournament was being sponsored by Namibian Breweries using Windhoek Lager leading brand.
Nyirenda named the 16 golfers as Jewel Mbambara, Dolly Mbambara from Chilanga Golf Club, Chongo Kasongole, Jonathan Mukosha from Chainama Golf Club, Shannon Joynt, Carol Masisina from Lusaka Golf Club, Uirich Lessen, Ken Adler from Bonana Golf Club
Others are Lyford Banda, Eustance Munsaka from Chibuluma Golf Club, M. Bally, M. Vally from Lusaka Golf Club, Moses Chitoshi, James Mwewa from Mufulira Golf Club and two others from Nkana Golf Club.
"These 16 golfers emerged winners from the qualifiers and they will now compete in the Windhoek Lager International Pairs (WILPA) South African golf tournament in Ndola, this Saturday, August 24.
''The winners of this national championship will represent the country in Portugal in the international tournament which will take place from November 23 to 24, 2019,'' Nyirenda said. Nyirenda said Kazuma enterprises, who are the official importers and distributors of Windhoek larger, said they attached great importance in sponsoring and contributing to the growth of the sport of golf.
Company Chief Executive Officer, Sasha Manglov said his company was delighted to be the main sponsor of the national championship.
He said the winners of the national championship will have a fully paid sponsorship package to Portugal which would include air ticket, lodging and competing fees.
"The message from Kazuma is that the company is very delighted to be part of this national championship. It has even pledged to fully pay the sponsorship package of the winners of the national championship in Portugal. This will include air ticket, lodging and competing fees,'' he said.
And ZGU president Jason Kazilimani said the union would continue to grow the game of Golf in Zambia and that the national championship was the latest of new events and opportunities that it was making available to its affiliates.
