Kabwe woos Indian investors to disaster relief
Mr Kabwe said the northern part of Zambia experienced perennial flash floods which disrupted normal life thereby increasing the need for shelter and other relief.
“I wish to urge India’s Svarn Infratel Private Limited to set up a disaster relief essential aids manufacturing facility in Zambia,” Mr Kabwe said.
He the prefabs which could be assembled in 48hrs had a wide range of emergency shelter uses including housing, education and health.
He was speaking in New Delhi, India, when Svarn Infratel Private Limited Head of Business Development Subho Bhattacharya made a presentation to him.
Mr. Kabwe however, warned against acquiring land for speculative purposes.
“Land was given to Pingpong Group in Chibombo, Central Province, two years ago for the construction of a 750 bed capacity hospital and I urge the company to fulfil the investment pledge,” he said.
Mr Kabwe said land in Zambia was a rare important resource that should improve the quality of lives of the people adding that Government did not want investors that would dialogue for five years without implementation.
“Government does not want to excite Zambians for nothing because running a country is serious business,” The DMMU National Coordinator said.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga said the mission had done everything possible to connect Pingpong to relevant ministries and was hoping that the hospital project could start soon.
And Svarn Infratel Private Limited Head of Business Development Subho Bhattacharya said his company had great reputation in the manufacturing of panels for prefabricated housing, bio- toilets and water ATM.
“Setting up a manufacturing facility of prefabricated toilets in Zambia can create jobs and will be durable as compared to temporal shelters,” Bhattacharya said.
