COUNTER OPPOSITION LIES, PF LEADERS ADVISED

- By ROGERS KALERO

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) officials and members at various party structures should strive to explain the party programmes and also correct the false, malicious and misleading information which the opposition are spreading to the people of Zambia, Kitwe District PF chairman Evaristo Chilufya has said.

Mr Chilufya said the malicious campaign to incite Zambians against the leadership of President Edgar Lungu should be checked by the PF leaders through correcting the falsehoods and misleading information of the opposition leaders.

In an interview in Kitwe at the weekend, Mr Chilufya said some opposition party leaders had run out of objectivity and had now resorted to cheap political propaganda to mislead Zambians with lies.

"Our role as party leaders is to be loyal to the party and President Lungu. This means we have to defend the party and our President who is the republican President.

"So it is our role to explain party programmes and most of all to correct the false and malicious statements which some opposition leaders are making about our government. We should check them because they are on a malicious campaign to incite Zambians against the leadership of President Lungu,'' Mr Chilufya said.

And Mr Chilufya has urged Members of Parliament and councillors to get down to the grassroots and engage people on various issues they were facing so they could work together in addressing them.

He said the party would only get stronger and win the support of the people if the MPs and councillors were in constant touch with them and working with them in finding solutions.

He said political leadership called for sacrifice and those who were in various political positions should be ready to sacrifice for the people who voted for them.

"Leadership is sacrifice, you have to be ready for anything, sometimes people will wake you up for an emergency and you have to wake up. So my plea to leaders, especially councillors is to be on the ground with people so that they communicate to the MPs. "Let us be closer to the people and we should always find time for them. Let us engage them on various issues so that we are moving on the same pace. People don't like leaders who do things as they wish,' Mr Chilufya said.
