Slow down speeding motorists, RDA told

- By ENOCK KADEMAUNGA

THE Road Development Agency (RDA) and Lusaka City Council (LCC) should urgently erect speed humps on Lukasu Road between Football House and the newly built Futsal centre in Longacres as the stretch has become a death trap, some residents has said.

Mr Albert Kazita, said while he appreciated that vehicles were now moving smoothly on the newly constructed road, he was concerned with excessive speeding by some motorists.

He appealed to relevant authorities to quickly put up speed humps as motorists were speeding and endangering the lives of pedestrians.

Mr Kazita said many children from different townships flood the Futsal Centre for practices and that he was worried that in the absence of speed humps, some careless motorists posed a danger to children and other pedestrians.

“The absence of speed humps poses a danger to pedestrians and children who come from various townships for football practices. Motorist do not consider people in the area, putting people’s lives at risk.

“There is at least one car crash every week on the same road and it is only logical that RDA and LCC quickly put up humps on the said road before more lives are lost at the hands of motorists,” he said.

And Ms Kangwa Kalunga has called on the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to erect speed humps and proper signage around the same area.

She also urged motorist to be cautious on the road and follow appropriate speed limits and other road signage to avoid accidents because this was a residential area and not a highway.
