WINA BLASTS LAWYERS, POLITICIANS
...Sikota Wina accuses lawyers and politicians of hijacking constitution making process
ZAMBIANS should strongly reject manoeuvres by lawyers and politicians to stop them from participating in the Constitutional amendment process, veteran politician and freedom fighter Sikota Wina has said.
Mr Wina said lawyers and politicians were trying to cause chaos in the country over the Constitution Amendment Bill No 10 of 2019, by feeding the nation with biased statements.
He said it was unfortunate that instead of giving proper guidance on the Constitution Amendment Bill No 10 of 2019, lawyers and politicians were busy making statements that could cause confusion in the nation.
He said the two parties were not the only stakeholders in Constitution amendment process and should therefore not hijack the process.
Mr Wina, in an interview yesterday, accused some lawyers and politicians of wanting to hijack the process, saying they should give chance to ordinary citizens to also air their views.
He said the role of the lawyers and politicians was to provide guidance to the Zambian people on Bill and not to personalise the process.
The constitutional making process, he stated, was for all Zambians and not only for some sections of society.
“Lawyers and politicians in the country are failing the people of Zambia on the Constitution Amendment Bill, they have created so much controversy regarding this issue, instead of providing guidance to the nation.
“The opinions of ordinary Zambians regarding the Bill are not heard, it’s like the whole process is now for lawyers and politicians, which should not be the case. Constitution making is for every Zambian, even the poorest of the poor should contribute to this process,” Mr Wina said.
The veteran politician urged Zambians not to allow any particular group of people to make decisions on their behalf.
Mr Wina urged Zambians to stand up and air their views on the Constitution Amendment Bill Number 10 by making their submissions to the Select Committee.
Mr Wina called for intensified sensitisation on the content of the Amendment Bill to ordinary Zambians.
