Mealie meal prices hitch solvable – RB

- By MOSES SINJWALA in Petauke.

All stakeholders should sit down and find a solution to the problem of mealie meal prices as the country is not experiencing it for the first time, former President Rupiah Banda has said.

Mr Banda said the problem of mealie meal prices could be resolved if all the stakeholders sat down to find a solution.

He said in an interview a solution to the problem of mealie mealie prices was there and could be found.

Mr Banda also said there was no food crisis in the country but only the problem of prices of the commodity and no need for people to panic.

"There is no food crisis in the country, I was in Livingstone just last week and I could see mealie meal in shops. The problem is not food but the price of mealie meal and for that there is a solution," he said.

Mr Banda said the good part was that leaders had realised the problem and that this was a step towards finding a lasting solution to the issue.

The former head of state urged politicians, non-governmental organisation and citizens to stand together and not allow disunity to rule.

He said denting the image of the country with fake reports that the country was facing a food crisis was not the solution.

Mr Banda said it was important to learn lessons from the mealie meal prices problem to avoid a repeat next year.

He advised politicians to avoid taking advantage of problems to gain political mileage but instead help find solutions to the problem for the betterment of the country.
