MINISTER SEEKS KULIMA TOWER DECONGESTION PLAN
WE will work towards decongesting Kulima Tower Bus Station in Lusaka, Transport and Communication Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya has said.
Mr Kafwaya said Government under President Edgar Lungu was there to ensure that there was smooth transportation of goods and services.
Mr Kafwaya said he would talk to relevant institutions over the request to expand the station by occupying the space belonging to National Housing Authority (NHA) that was next to the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) so as to expand and decongest the station.
The minister said this when he toured Kulima Tower bus station to check on the operations and to attend to the challenges that the drivers and commuters face.
He said limited space affected the flow of traffic and business and that is why his ministry would look into the matter as the expansion would result in improved service delivery.
He assured the management, bus drivers and conductors and other people doing business at the station that he would look into the issues they raised in order to improve service delivery for the people of Lusaka.
“I decided to tour the station to understand the challenges the people operating in the station are facing so as to make an informed decision. Now that I know what people want, I will engage relevant ministries and institutions on how best some of the raised concerns could be addressed,” said Mr Kafwaya.
And Kulima Tower bus station manager Collins Mulenga said bus drivers and conductors have been cooperating with management, but that they only complain of congestion in the station which affected the flow of traffic.
Mr Mulenga observed that the plot belonging to NHA could be used in expanding the station and address the congestion problem.
