Zambia reviews laws hindering growth
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says Zambia is reviewing laws that hinder business growth and cause delay in the operationalisation of businesses in its quest to create a conducive investment environment.
Addressing the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Yokohama, Japan yesterday, President Lungu said his Government had embarked on ambitious policy reforms to make Zambia a business destination of choice.
He said Zambia had embarked on several reforms to make the business environment conducive for business and the private sector to participate and thrive.
He thanked Japan for coming up with the TICAD initiative which he said provided a platform for interaction between that country and Africa for business and knowledge sharing.
"We have embarked on several reforms to make the environment conducive for business and the private sector to
participate and thrive. Among others, we are reviewing laws that hinder business growth and cause delay in the operationalisation of business.
"I would like to thank the Government
of Japan and the co-sponsors of the TICAD7 for organising this very important meeting. This event has provided us with a platform to interact and share ideas on how we can accelerate economic transformation and improve business environment through innovations and private sector management," President Lungu said.
"In this regard I would like to say that the Zambian Government has prioritised development in road rail, power generation and other economic sectors.
He said the Zambian Government was implementing the national trade policy, among other pieces of legislation, to actualise its goal of making Zambia an investment destination of choice.
"Furthermore, we are intensifying interventions to grow the manufacturing sector, including the development of the Multi-Facility Economic Zones (MFEZ), industrial parks and industrial yards.
"Let me conclude by just reaffirming the Zambian Government's commitment towards accelerating economic transformation and improving business environment through innovation and private sector development," he said.
