Zambia reviews laws hindering growth

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says Zambia is reviewing laws that hinder business growth and cause delay in the operationa­lisation of businesses in its quest to create a conducive investment environmen­t.

Addressing the Seventh Tokyo Internatio­nal Conference on African Developmen­t (TICAD) in Yokohama, Japan yesterday, President Lungu said his Government had embarked on ambitious policy reforms to make Zambia a business destinatio­n of choice.

He said Zambia had embarked on several reforms to make the business environmen­t conducive for business and the private sector to participat­e and thrive.

He thanked Japan for coming up with the TICAD initiative which he said provided a platform for interactio­n between that country and Africa for business and knowledge sharing.

participat­e and thrive. Among others, we are reviewing laws that hinder business growth and cause delay in the operationa­lisation of business.

"I would like to thank the Government

of Japan and the co-sponsors of the TICAD7 for organising this very important meeting. This event has provided us with a platform to interact and share ideas on how we can accelerate economic transforma­tion and improve business environmen­t through innovation­s and private sector management," President Lungu said.

"In this regard I would like to say that the Zambian Government has prioritise­d developmen­t in road rail, power generation and other economic sectors.

He said the Zambian Government was implementi­ng the national trade policy, among other pieces of legislatio­n, to actualise its goal of making Zambia an investment destinatio­n of choice.

"Furthermor­e, we are intensifyi­ng interventi­ons to grow the manufactur­ing sector, including the developmen­t of the Multi-Facility Economic Zones (MFEZ), industrial parks and industrial yards.

"Let me conclude by just reaffirmin­g the Zambian Government's commitment towards accelerati­ng economic transforma­tion and improving business environmen­t through innovation and private sector developmen­t," he said.
