Don’t go to SA, drivers told
GOVERNMENT has banned Zambian truck drivers from travelling to South Africa for security reasons.
The Zambia Association in South Africa has confirmed that a Zambian truck driver Daniel Lupiya has been injured and was receiving treatment at Germiston hospital in South Africa.
Minister of Transport and Communications Mutotwe Kafwaya said the ban would remain in force until the security situation improved in South Africa.
He advised drivers who travelled to that country and trapped there to park the trucks in safe and designated places which authorities could recommend until security improved.
Mr Kafwaya said in line with the bilateral road transport agreement between the two countries, the Zambian government would continue to engage South African authorities to ensure security measures were put in place to protect Zambian drivers.
Meanwhile,ZASA president Ferdinand Simaanya says Those arriving by bus from Zambia to South Afric,once they drop off in central johannesburg, should go straight to their hotel rooms and wait for further instructions from the Zambia High Commission and ZASA .
Meanwhile The SADC Truck Drivers Association has challenged heads of state in the SADC region to amicably deal with continued cases of xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals in South Africa.
There have been fresh reports of violence against foreign nationals in South Africa after truck drivers in that country threatened attack the counterparts from foreign countries for working there.
